Walk Beside Someone. Be a Lifeline.
From 6th April to 21st April, Darren Ryan will take on a powerful challenge: walking 16 miles a day for 16 days. Behind every step is a simple but urgent message we need to talk about mental health, and we need to do it together.
It’s about creating space for conversations that can feel difficult to start and reminding people that they don’t have to face things alone. Because sometimes, walking beside someone and listening can make all the difference.
This isn’t just Darren’s journey. It’s an open invitation to the community.
Walk. Talk. Connect.
Across the 16 days, everyone is encouraged to get involved in a way that feels right for them:
· Walk alongside Darren, even for a short distance
· Start a conversation - whether you need to talk or simply listen
· Donate, if you’re able, to support vital mental health services
Together, these small actions can create meaningful change.
Supporting young people’s mental health
Funds raised through this challenge will support children and young people’s mental health through South East and Central Essex Mind.
The project will fund a year of support delivered in collaboration with Rayleigh CrossFit and their CrossFit Teens group in partnership with SECE Mind. By creating a positive and supportive environment, young people can build confidence, develop self-belief, and access early mental health support when they need it.
It’s about giving young people the tools to cope, the confidence to grow, and the support to build a more positive future.
“Support our children’s minds now. Prevent Crisis later”
About Darren
Darren Ryan is a mental health speaker, life coach, and founder of Lifeline Coaching and Mentoring. A former police detective, Darren was medically discharged with PTSD.
In his own words, “I know how close that edge can be.”
Rather than being defined by his experiences, Darren chose a different path — using his story to support others. His work focuses on helping people find strength, connection and hope, even in the most difficult moments.
A community effort
This challenge is proudly supported by David Lloyd Southend, in collaboration with Rayleigh CrossFit and South East and Central Essex Mind.
It’s a reminder that when communities come together, we can create spaces where people feel seen, heard and supported.
Walk beside someone
Mental health can affect any of us. But no one should have to face it alone.
Whether you join for a walk, start a conversation, or support through a donation, you are helping to make sure more people get the support they need.
Walk beside someone.
Start a conversation.
Be a lifeline.
You can donate via Darren’s JustGiving page to show your support as he completes his challenge.
