Student Counsellor Placement

Are you currently training to become a counsellor and looking for a supportive environment in which to develop your therapeutic practice?

At South East and Central Essex Mind, we welcome applications from counselling students seeking supervised volunteer placements as part of their professional training.

Our placements provide an opportunity to gain practical experience within a community mental health charity, working alongside experienced professionals and developing the skills, confidence and understanding needed for safe and effective counselling practice.

Depending on your training, experience and our service capacity, placements may offer opportunities to support our adult counselling services, Children and Young People's services or funded counselling programmes.

About the opportunity

  • Placement type: Student volunteer placement

  • Location: Southend-on-Sea and/or online, where appropriate

  • Hours: Agreed in line with course requirements and service capacity

  • Supervision: Appropriate clinical and placement supervision arrangements required

Who we're looking for

We welcome applications from students currently undertaking a Level 4 counselling or psychotherapy qualification, or equivalent, who have commenced the practical element of their training.

Applicants must have confirmation from their training provider that they are ready to undertake supervised counselling practice and meet the relevant supervision, safeguarding and placement requirements.

We're looking for students who are compassionate, reflective and committed to developing their skills within a safe, ethical and person-centred approach.

This is an opportunity to contribute to meaningful community-based mental health support while continuing your professional learning and development.

Placements are subject to availability, service capacity and individual training requirements.
